Shaping the future of automotive steel

ArcelorMittal is a global community of around 126, 000 employees, bound by an entrepreneurial spirit and a relentless ambition to redefine what steel can achieve. Across the Group, we continue to push boundaries—developing technologies that reduce the carbon footprint of steelmaking, transforming the built environment with advanced construction solutions, 3D‑printing automotive components using steel powders, and deploying artificial intelligence and automation throughout our operations. This forward‑looking mindset is what drives us and positions ArcelorMittal as the steel company of the future.

Within this global ecosystem, ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks is a leading expert in laser-welded steel solutions for the automotive industry. By combining the right steel grade and thickness in a single tailored product, we help enable lighter, safer and more efficient vehicle structures. With strong industrial capabilities across Europe and Turkey, we support our customers end-to-end—from co-engineering to series production—delivering high-performance, sustainable solutions powered by ArcelorMittal’s technology and innovation.

Our journey

2003

Creation of Tailored Blanks Arcelor

The Tailored Blanks Arcelor entity is established following the creation of Arcelor. It brings together the laser‑welded blank activities previously part of Usinor, Arbed, and Aceralia. At this stage, the business operates industrial sites across Europe, the United States, and Australia, unified under a single organization.

2006

Formation of ArcelorMittal & birth of ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks

In 2006, Mittal Steel and Arcelor merge to form what will become the world’s largest steel company, officially named ArcelorMittal in 2007.

This year also marks the creation of ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks (AMTB).

During the same year AMTB Europe partenered with JBM: a major indian stamper to create ArcelorMittal Neel Tailored Blanks (ANTB) which has been very successful. ANTB is now able to provide ArcelorMittal franchised LWB solutions with four plants located in the four main automotive hubs : Gujarat state, Delhi region, Pune and Chennaï.

March 2007

Partnership with Noble and global consolidation

ArcelorMittal and Noble International decide to combine their laser welded tailored blanks operations. This partnership creates a global tailored blanks platform. As part of this transaction, ArcelorMittal sells certain tailored blanks activities to Noble, initiating a phased reorganization of the business.

2009

Reintegration of European Tailored Blanks activities

In 2009, ArcelorMittal acquires all issued and outstanding shares of Noble European Holdings. This leads to the full reintegration of Noble’s European tailored blanks activities into ArcelorMittal. This reintegration strengthens and consolidates AMTB as a key subsidiary within the Group, reinforcing its industrial and strategic footprint.

Partnership
Since Arcelor time, AMTB Europe created partnerships to bring laser welded blanks offers to OEMs.

2007 - 2010

Industrialisation of hot-stamped laser-welded blanks

AMTB pioneers the industrial production of laser-welded blanks for press-hardened steels (PHS), supported by the development and deployment of the patented partial ablation process. The first ablation equipment is installed in Gent, enabling reliable welding of Usibor® and Ductibor® grades.

2015 - 2018

Technology leadership and productivity breakthroughs

AMTB strengthens its technology leadership with major productivity innovations for cold stamped application and for PHS with the simultaneous ablation and welding process “ablation 2.0”. At the same time, the ablation process evolves towards “Ablation 2.0”, significantly increasing capacity and efficiency for PHS laser-welded blanks.

In 2018 ArcelorMittal, Bamesa and AMTB decided to re-enforce their partnership in BAMI to make it the supplier of choice in Tailored welded blanks in Turkey.

2020 - 2023

From Tailored Blanks to Multi Part Integration solutions

AMTB evolves from a tailored blanks supplier to a solution provider, promoting Multi Part Integration (MPI®). MPI combines laser welding, hot stamping and part integration to reduce weight, cost, CO₂ footprint and body-shop complexity for OEMs.

2023 - Today

Power of less & sustainable automotive solutions

AMTB positions MPI and advanced laser-welded blanks at the core of ArcelorMittal’s “Smarter steels for people and planet” strategy, focusing on lightweighting, safety, modularity, CO₂ reduction and compatibility with all powertrains (ICE, HEV, PHEV, BEV).
